Florida was included in the top 26 highest foreclosure rates in the United States, along with California, Nevada, and Arizona. The cities were selected for having a population of more than 200,000.

 

9 of the 26 cities of having the highest foreclosure rates belong to Florida, second only to California for having 13 cities above it. Arizona and Nevada only have two cities each included in the Top 26.

 

Metropolitan areas were among those hit by the foreclosure trend since the first quarter of 2009. According to statistics, Las Vegas topped the list by having a total of 4.48% among its total housing units going into foreclosure, which is to say that 1 out of 22 homes goes to foreclosure as more homeowners fail to pay their dues on time.

 

While Las Vegas ranked top in the list, Cape Coral-Fort Meyers got the third spot of having a 3.85% foreclosure rate -- 1 out of every 26 homes going into foreclosure. The 22 spot of the Top 26 foreclosure list goes to the metropolitan area of Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Pompano Beach with 1.26% among the total home population filing for foreclosure.

 

Other Florida cities included in the list are Port St. Lucie (10) with 2.15%, Orlando-Kissimmee (13) with 2%, Naples-Marco Island (14) with 1.96%, Sarasota-Bradenton-Venice (21) with 1.28%, and Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater (23) with 1.25%.

 

There were speculations with the experts that there is a possibility that the number of foreclosures will increase in the later months of 2009 as the number of unemployed individuals rises in the nation.
