Mark Michael Ferrer :: Blog :: Exterior Improvements That Can Boost the Value of Your Miami Real Estate Property

May 18, 2010

Any homeowner would want to know how they can improve the value of their property. Especially these days when buyer’s markets are sprouting everywhere, you have to squeeze as much cash as you can from the deal. Exterior improvements are just some of the things that can help boost the value of your home. And if you are a proud owner of a Miami real estate property soon going to be on sale, here are some things that you can do outside of your home.

Deck

The deck is one of the most popular, high-impact improvements for Miami real estate properties or any homes in general. Decks are often designed to ease access through the back of the house, either through a standard door or a sliding door. These areas provide an interesting setting for a family activity, like barbeque and late-night gatherings, or even quiet relaxations. You should be careful, though, in choosing the materials your deck is going to be made from as there are several to choose from. Pine, for instance, must be treated to withstand climate extremes. But if you are looking for a natural look, cedar is the best choice, especially stained cedar wood.

Gazebos

If the garden of your Miami real estate property needs some sprucing up, gazebos might be the best answer. These backyard additions also highly impact the value of any home, and their function varies greatly depending on size. Smaller gazebos are best used for lazy afternoons with a glass of lemonade, for instance; while larger ones can accommodate outdoor dinners. It is up to you to decide how big or small you want your gazebo to be. Keep in mind the area of your lot, and most importantly, the budget. But since gazebos are not as common as other exterior improvements, you will certainly garner points for uniqueness from buyers.

Sheds

If there is one thing that attracts buyers to a Miami real estate property, it’s storage. When you are left with a significant vacancy in your backyard, consider installing a storage shed. This installation is generally considered to have a high impact on the value of any home, especially if you are targeting families. As mentioned, additional storage space, be it a spare room in the attic or an extra garage, increases the marketability of a home. So installing a permanent shed in your backyard may just be the extra kick you need to attract buyers.
